Regardless of whether you have a large or small front porch, stoop, or simple walk-up, decorating the “entry point” to your house is a sure-fire way to get the attention of passersby. There are a variety of ways you can go in terms of decorating your welcome area, from absurdly over-the-top (see: Clark Griswald), to simple and understated.

HOLLYWOOD PIZZAZZ

True are you in thinking that Wisconsin is a long way from Hollywood, both figuratively and literally. However, there is no shame in wanting to decorate the exterior of your home with a little bit of sophistication and style. There are various color schemes which lend to this style of holiday decorating; but simple, clean, bright white lights with small gold accent decorations peppered around the outside of your home always seems to do the trick. Further, silver, outdoor-based garland wrapped around the posts on your front porch or step will add some shimmering style.

KEEPIN’ IT COUNTRY

Another avenue which you can take when it comes to decorating the exterior of your home for the holiday season is to go with a more country or rustic vibe. You can do this by searching your local flea market or discount stores for mini wagon wheels and faux hay bales (or the real thing if ya got ‘em!). These and other items can be strategically placed around your front lawn. Add to these decorations the traditional red, green, and blue lights, and you have yourself the makings of a country holiday sensation right outside your doorstep. In addition, finding and placing farm-style knick-knacks such as tractors, cows, and sheep around your front step / porch will only add to the feel.

The varying levels to which you decide to go for either of these holiday decorating styles is certainly up to you. Allowing all in your family to partake and enjoy in the dressing up of the exterior of your home will only add to the lovely and wonderful tradition of viewing holiday decorations within your community.
